"Hello,I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 12/11 and the phone is not working the way it was before updating. It is running terribly slow. How can I make it work in the same speed it was before? Can anyone please advise me? Thanks!"
There are many iOS users expressing their disappointment and annoyance at the same time after getting done with new iOS 12/11 installation. iPhone running slow is one of those problems. We replied to more and more on iPhone users these days and this problem really ruins the users' experience. Therefore, we decided to write this article and introduce some methods to fix this iPhone running slow issue. Scroll down and try the given solutions.

1 Turn On Reduce Motion & Reduce Transparency

Enabling the 'Reduce Motion' can help in resolving the problem of iPhone running slow after updating to iOS 12/11. It will disable all the motion effects like parallax, animation effects in some applications like weather animation etc. To turn it on, follow the steps provided below.

Start with opening "Settings" and tapping on "General".

Go to "Accessibility" and toggle the "Reduce Motion" button on.

Another feature you need enable is Reduce Transparency from all the places like notification center, lock screen or control center etc. This feature was added since the release of iOS 7 and can take up memory. Reducing this see-through background could finish the lag in the iPhone. To turn it on:

Go to "Settings" and move to "General".

Navigate to "Accessibility" and tap on "Increase Contrast" after scrolling down.

Lastly, tap on "Reduce Transparency" and toggle it on.

2 Hard Reset iPhone

Performing hard reset doesn't take much time or technical expertise. You just need your fingers and few seconds to wait for. More than that, it contains no harm while performing. Therefore this method should be tried first when your iPhone begins to running slow after updating to iOS 12/11.

All you need to do is keep pressing the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" button until the Apple logo comes on the screen. Release the buttons once you see the logo. If you use iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, you need to press "Volume Down" button instead of "Home". If you are using iPhone X and iPhone 8, quick press "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" buttons and then keep holding side button until you see the Apple logo.

3 Turn Off Background App Refresh &Automatic Download

Background App Refresh is one of the automated features of iPhone and can hamper the speed of the device ultimately making the iPhone running slow than usual even you are running iOS 12/11. Therefore, you need to disable "Background App Refresh" in order to improve the speed of your iPhone. To perform this method, go to "Settings" > "General" > "Background App Refresh" and turn it off.

Turning off the Auto-Update feature is recommended when your iPhone is running slow. Go to "iTunes & App Store" and turn off the options below "Automatic Downloads" to make the device perform well. The reason behind this is automatic updates of apps use up more memory and lead to the slow performance. Hence, don't rely on automatic update; instead go for manual update approach.

4 Update Apps & Delete Unwanted Apps/Files

If your apps are not updated, that might cause iPhone running slow. This is because the apps that are not updated are not compatible with the new iOS 12/11. Therefore, to speed up your device, update the apps in it. Just go to "App Store" and touch "Update All".

Less space in the device can also be the reason of iPhone running slowly. Make sure to have 1GB as a minimum space. So, if you have low storage in your device, take some time to remove the unnecessary files and applications or delete the apps taking more space. For example, you can delete apps from home screen directly by long pressing it and tapping on the cross appearing on the right corner or you can head to "Settings" > "General" > "Storage & iCloud Usage" > "Manage Storage". There, you will notice a list of apps and how much space each one is taking. You can choose "Delete App" to remove a particular app.
